Three Days in Tavira, Portugal
Having spent three weeks by the sea, we thought a short break to the country side would be fun and a change of scenery. I did a bit of research and found an amazing olive farm 3-star hotel that looked quite like heaven. It’s a “petit bijoux” and feels like a 5-star ! You do need to rent a car to get around Algarve but the rental services at Faro airport are very efficient.
where to stay
Fazenda Nova Country House is situated in Tavira, a small city approximately 25 minutes away from Faro so very easy access. When I say countryside, be reassured that the most beautiful beaches are just 15 minutes away so you can have both.
When the gate opened, we were already like OMG !
This stunning place was renovated 7 years ago and there are 15 spacious rooms and suites decorated with utmost taste with a boho chic vibe.
We got a ground-floor suite which was so spacious and comfortable with a private garden and a stunning bathroom plus an extra WC. The whole place feels like a private house. I really found here #whatsarahloves !
There is a very pretty pool area which is extremely quiet with lounge chairs, sun-beds and all situated amongst the most beautiful olive trees (they have three hundred of them and make their own olive oil… I’ve truly died and gone to heaven).
At the hotel, the breakfast was à la carte (due to Covid, there is no buffet) and very good.
For lunch, they serve a small plate with fresh salads from the garden.
Tavira is a stunning city with a lot of charm and beautiful architecture.
A stroll around the town and you’ll just sit down in any cute restaurant for dinner.
where to eat
O Fialho - Pinheiro, Luz de Tavira
Traditional open fish grill with a huge range of seafood
Capelo Restaurant in Santa Luzia
This is my personal fave. The service was amazing, authentic and the best shrimps ! And guys the homemade potato chips were beyond!
Brisa do Rio in Tavira Centre
Best fish in Tavira, simple cooking with great ingredients.
You also have to visit the amazing beach Praia do Barril. By car it’s a 15 min drive from the hotel to Santa Luzia where you get on a little cute open train at Pedras D’el Rei.
Wifi at the hotel is not the fastest so this might no be your new office location. The bar closes at 10:30pm but the manager is very kind to leave you drinks and cooled wine in the fridge. I did regret not to have a small fridge in my suite to buy some snacks or keep my water cool.
Visiting Tavira and staying at Fazenda Nova is definitely worthwhile and very idyllic. In the summer months which last way into October in Algarve, it is even worth to fly down for a long weekend.
We loved our stay and will definitely be back very soon !
