My Daily Vitamin C
Oh hello there! Just a little skincare blog as so many answered to my recent poll on my IG story about Vitamin C skincare. For years I had heard so much about and after having regular facials and treatments at the Mayfair Practice in London, I have been really educated on how important Vitamin C is for my skin.
There are so many on the market that it’s hard to know how to navigate. I am here to help! There are a lot that don’t do anything because they don’t have the right doses and lots of strong ones which ended up being very uncomfortable, giving a stinging sensation. Blah. So let’s get started!
Why do we need it ?
Because of its antioxidant properties, Vitamin C aids in your skin's natural regeneration process, which helps your body repair damaged skin cells.
From a young age, we are all taught to eat lots of fresh fruits and foods that contain Vitamin C to keep our body fit. Topical antioxidants do the same for your skin and help to offset aggressors like UV damage and exposure to air pollution. So for me, good Vitamin C skincare is as important as my fresh orange juice in the morning.
Here are some of my favourite Vitamin C products that I have tried and really work for me. These are my ultimate favourites that I have tested first-hand, as well as one new one which is becoming a fast new addition to the list.
FYI Vitamin C should always be applied in the morning (as much as Retinol should be part of your PM routine).
Brighten & Perfect
It’s definitely on top of my top list. I have used this Vitamin C product from MZSkin for the past two years now and have finished several bottles. The Founder Dr. Zamani suffers herself from melasma so I really trust her to find a formula to reduce dark spots and pigmentation. It really helps me to keep my skintone even. It’s on the expensive side but totally worth it. I love the texture- it’s very smooth and not sticky. Highly recommend!
An oldie but a goldie
C E Ferulic from SkinCeuticals has been in my bathroom for a LONG time and I always grab a bottle again in-between the other products that I use. It is a really good antioxidant and it’s often recommended by skincare professionals. I like the texture, it doesn’t irritate my skin and it works.
My new discovery
I have recently discovered the Vitamin C product from Juvena of Switzerland (a brand I absolutely adore… I love that it’s from my home country too!). And how cute is this? It comes in the form of a little booster ampoule and separate Vitamin C freeze dried balls that you mix with the booster liquid every morning freshly prepared. It smells divine and the product absorbs very well into the skin. You can add on other serums or creams easily. I love this concept a lot and it feels great on my skin. Might tingle a few minutes but not much longer.
A powerful one
I love Obagi because it’s recommended by so many dermatologists that I know and trust, but use with caution as the ingredients are pretty strong. Some of the products are too much for me and irritate my skin but this 10% Vitamin C serum is great. The drawbacks? The smell is not great. It does sting a little so I always start gradually and switch to milder ones in between. It is an amazing product and does really help with pigmentation.
