The Louise Parker Method
Around February this year, I started feeling really worn out. Although I had always eaten very healthily (or at least that’s what I thought) and attended my weekly yoga/ pilates classes, I felt constantly bloated, crampy and had a huge lack of energy. I pinned it on a hormone imbalance and got even more stressed thinking that I was potentially experiencing perimenopause.
The more I worried, the more my stomach reacted. I ran from my GP, to reflexology, to Googling all sorts of sicknesses that I thought I could have. Fun times…
MEETING LOUISE
It was my lucky day when I met Louise Parker: Writer and Creator of The Louise Parker Method, when she spoke at a “Wellness Wednesday” conference in London which I found very interesting. She was taking appointments after her talk, and I thought to myself...what do I have to lose by setting up a meeting?
Two weeks later I was all booked in for a 90-min one-on-one session with Louise herself. It was quite an appointment I must say! I hadn’t been understood this well in a long time, and there even came a moment where she silently handed me a box of tissue.
It had never been about losing weight for me, but rather shifting it and getting my body balanced. She understood when I said “I feel fatsy” around my belly and her immediate tip was to put those skinny jeans away for a while- no need to squeeze yourself into tight clothes, it will just make you feel worse.
She also understood that even though people think I’m very slim, I often don’t feel that way myself.
Louise explained to me the different programmes available and the LPM philosophy. It’s not about dieting but about adopting a healthy lifestyle that will last for good.
The next day I emailed her and said that I would commit to the 6-week program. Hell do I hate to commit to things like this in general but I felt really unwell and figured that being coached as well as supervised for 6-weeks could be very motivating for me.
UNDERSTANDING FOOD
The following week I had my first meeting with Alejandra, one of the registered dietitians at Louise Parker. She is an IBS specialist and really understands how to battle digestion issues. On a personal level, I just really clicked with her- such a sweet person who takes the time to listen.
We went through everything I usually eat and what my daily routine consisted of. She put me on a special scale that analyses your body composition. Urghhhh....high fat, low muscle and what surprised me most was that I wasn’t eating right.
I received a printed program specially created for my goals, with a very easy explanation of the ingredients and portions to eat every day, as well as recommended exercises. It consisted of one PT session per week at the wellness clinic but you could do more if you liked. I opted for keeping my weekly yoga, added one barre class at Barrecore, and another yoga for 4x-per-week workout. Ouch.
My program was really designed for my personal needs and would be different for everyone so I will not explain the changes that I had to make. I didn’t really start cooking differently or have to stick to recipes eventhough there are many good ones suggested and tailored for you.
I do go out for dinner and drinks very often (London life!), however The Louise Parker Method didn’t change my rhythm… we just adapted my diet plan to the restaurants and it’s always easy to find places with healthy food in London.
Into Week Two, I got on that scale again and OMG my weight had gone up but Alejandra just smiled... my body fat went down and my muscle mass up so my body had started to respond.
LET’S GET PHYSICAL
The PT sessions were a bit challenging for the first two times but wow, did I feel good afterwards! The fitness actually got to me and this is the part I’m most happy about. I was also recommended to do a Meditation Workshop which I’ll attend in September.
Alejandra has been on-top of me throughout the 6-weeks with a weekly session and immediate response by email if I have any questions. Not to mention Louise herself who was always asking me how I was doing and wanted to be updated of my progress.
It goes without saying that I am more than thrilled with The Louise Parker Method. I learnt so much about food and my digestion: what I can and can’t tolerate, as well as how to eat for my body. This was by no means a diet for me, but a learning process that will define how I live my life going forward. I actually enjoy new foods I never ate before or thought I couldn’t eat.
After 6 weeks I had my last check up with Alejandra where we went through everything I learned and looked at my body composition. I was more than thrilled with the results and the goals I achieved.
At 46, I haven’t felt this good ever and can’t thank the Louise Parker team enough. They truly make you feel like you’re part of their family forever!
I feel more energised, fit and my digestion has improved consistently.
I am very honoured and proud to be part of their ambassador team.
