Styling with Deni Kiro @ The Shop at Bluebird
About a month ago, I was approached by the lovely stylist Deni Kiro who offered me a styling experience in collaboration with The Shop at Bluebird in Covent Garden.
I’m not really the ideal client for a stylist because I really just wear what I like- I don’t usually like the “from head to toe” look with hundreds of accessories that have to fit together.
But I thought, hey why not... it’s an experience and could be lots of fun to share with you!
Deni offers a range of Personal Styling, Wardrobe Management and shopping services for both men & women, and she wanted me to experience the entire range of her services.
The Initial Meeting
Deni had to get to know me so we started our first meeting going through what I love to wear and would never wear or if I would be willing to try certain things.
The No No Nos
Small over shoulder handbags, 5cm heels, lace dresses, certain necklines I don’t like, too many accessories and I’m not a fan of belts in general.
The Ya Ya Yas
Looove floral prints, sleek cuts, cool pants, boots ! Pinks, white, baby blue, leather...
the wardrobe cleanse
The second meeting was at my place and that was for sure my favourite part and very useful. With sushi and some good white wine we started taking my entire wardrobe apart.
We reviewed and organised all my clothes, shoes and accessories. We made piles for “donate”, “keep” and “sell at vintage shop” (there is a new one on King’s Road called Designer Exchange and it is great to sell designer clothes).
You can’t imagine the stuff I found in the back of my closets that I hadn’t seen in the past two years. How much percentage wise of your wardrobe do you really use ? I was surprised. We also found garments that were too big (thank you @thelouiseparkermethod) and needed to be altered and shortened some long dresses to give them a new life. Then we put some outfits together that I would have not thought of which was interesting as well.
The wardrobe management session was really helpful and a nice breather for my closet. I also saw gaps in my wardrobe- items that I should add or that were missing so the money from the vintage sale will be helpful for that.
the styling session at the shop at bluebird
Then came the fitting day at The Shop At Bluebird with a complimentary photoshoot. This part of the experience was definitely the closest to what I had imagined a styling appointment to look like. Deni had to try to find me the right outfits with new clothes.
In all fairness, I’m not easy like that- I always insist to always look and feel like me and often I had to say nonono sorry not wearing that which can be frustrating for a stylist who wants you to be “in” and fashionable.
It was all fun and for sure I got some helpful tricks and tips. It goes without saying- what’s not to like about spending hours at The Shop At Bluebird where you can find the best clothing brands to jewellery, accessories and scented candles... I felt like a kid in a candystore!
