Lockdown: What’s In My Basket?
So it’s been seven weeks now that most of us have been locked up at home and online shopping is my favourite (and frankly feels like sometimes my only) activity at the moment. I’m like a puppy at the door when the postman arrives! I literally tell my daughter not to close her bedroom door in case we miss the doorbell ring.
I thought it would be fun to share some of my purchases that have made me happy since staying #athome. I’m always keen on ordering with local brands as I believe it’s so important to support these businesses, especially now. Some of the brands I already knew and shopped with before but I also discovered amazing new small brands that I am really thrilled about.
Candlelight
I am a big consumer of candles but the amount of candles that I usually burn in a month has shockingly doubled. Quite sad because I love quality candles and scents... but my credit card is starting to disintegrate, so I felt I needed to take it easy. I’m very picky about my candles - the burn has to be right, the colour and the scent have to be perfect.
I discovered Evin Candle, a very small start up business in Switzerland. Not technically local to London but I lived there for 25 years so for me it feels local. The owner is very passionate about her products and I find them so beautiful. I like candles where you can keep the jar afterwards and use it in your bathroom for cotton pads or brushes. I use my old Fornasetti jars for example as well in the kitchen for sugar etc. The scent is exquisite and they come in many sizes and stunning colours.
FLORAL THERAPY
How important are flowers in lockdown ? I have to say I haven’t bought flowers for myself in ages and discovered Flower Bx for the most gorgeous deliveries. It’s seriously therapy. I am always in love with peonies and I even added a green plant to my collection. To my surprise it arrived two times bigger then I thought. Whoops! Maybe we had forgotten how important flowers are and lockdown might have woken that up. If I can’t go outside, why not bring outside indoors, right?
My beauty finds
I could literally buy makeup and skincare all day long and it’s such a highlight #athome to try out all the new products. Though it’s quite hard to buy makeup without testing the texture and colours I find. My first delivery from SpaceNK was a total failure. Wrong concealer colour, wrong eyeshadow... it just wasn’t my day but I bought an amazing neck and décolletage cream that I’m really convinced by.
Dr Dennis Gross SPF is always in the basket when my previous tube is running low and I mixed this with a new find from Skininmotion. This is a brand I discovered and the tinted moisturiser is fantastic.
A new small brand that’s worth trying. The entire range is designed for women who work out and everything is sweat proof. Great for my Barrecore workouts!
Let’s play dress up !
I’m dreaming of Summer every day and just getting out of this loungewear that I seriously can’t stand anymore so I placed an order Outdazl for this cute Summer beach dress. I’m in love with this oversized Summer bag as well. Outdazl is seriously good for Summer and Resort wear. It is definitely #whatsarahloves and in general I always try to buy items that I can dress up or down just by changing bags and shoes.
Speaking of Summer, I also received a new flower dress from Neve & Noor. I had been waiting for it and it finally arrived! It felt like Christmas! I wear this brand with my chunky sneakers or big boots in the Summer. I always love to combine her prints with a denim jacket. For me it’s the perfect day dress in town and on holidays.
Hello Donna !
I think you all know by now how much I love Donna Ida Denim. It is the brand for the best cuts and Donna really understands comfort and style. I love her jumpsuits and couldn’t resist the “Sadie” style in Dark Days that they have just introduced. They do this model now in XXS and for me this is the perfect fit. Most probably my favourite from Donna Ida Denim so far… and that’s saying a lot because I loveee my other pieces.
I also ordered this gorgeous skirt and shirt Lisou London- brand I discovered just before lockdown. The owner has a little cute shop in Notting Hill and sells her collection online as well. Lisou plays with really nice prints and I love the way you can style her clothes and that they are bit unusual. This skirt really made me happy and can’t wait to wear it after confinement is over. I am looking for a white bodysuit still that is more fitted then a normal t-shirt and stays in place.
I also love this heart printed silk shirt with any of my jeans or pants. It’s an easy one and looks chic or cool depending how I wear it. Here I styled it with Donna Ida’s jeans and my old Jimmy Choo wedges.
